Carnival needs your help

There is a huge question mark hanging over the future of Welshpool’s Carnival, which may have held its last event unless more people step forward to help.

An urgent plea has gone out from the small band of organisers holding the event together, and without an injection of fresh blood the Carnival is in serious danger of going under.

“There is a possibility that if people do not come forward that there may not be a Carnival next year, but not if we can help it,” said Trish Hodges from the Organising Committee.  “That is not a choice that we want to look at if we don't have to.”

Problems with scheduling caused by the Royal Wedding and the Olympics meant this summer’s event did not go ahead, but the organisers don’t think this had an impact on its  long-term future.

“Most committees that I know of are having trouble attracting fresh faces,” said Trish. “I don't think there being no Carnival this year has been the problem in terms of people coming forward. It seems to be increasingly difficult for a lot of organisations at present.”

Trish said there is no emergency planning at the moment and hopes that this early appeal will encourage more people to come forward and start the planning process for 2013 as soon as possible.

Can you help? If so, contact Trish after 6pm on 01938 556896 or Tegwyn Evans on 01938 552284.
